    My grandfather used to say that he only wore an orange bill hat, not an orange jacket or vest. His reasoning was "A small hat is a big enough target".

    effective range of a 30-06 projectile is about 1 1/4 miles - so you can be shot by someone who never saw you and will never know

    that being said the AT corridor is of coarse heavily wooded so travel / risk is highly reduced

    the real question for wearing blaze orange is why not? no good reasons not to

    I prefer an orange pack cover, that way it shows regardless of the temp/ conditions

    reminds me to pull it out

    A blaze orange hat should be sufficient. Maybe add an orange bandana tied to your pack.
