    Default Ultralight waterproof short gaiters

10 years ago I purchased Integral Designs Shortie gaiters and was very pleased. It checked all my buttons - it’s very light, short and protected me while walking in snow or wet grasslands.
After 10 years they’ve completely worn down and when I tried to repurchase them it turned out that Integral Designs doesn’t exist anymore and RAB who took over their line of products don’t manufacture these gaiters.
Do you have any suggestions for gaiters to replace my beloved Shortie gaiters?

Outdoor Research has weather resistant gaitors, both full length and short styles. Fairly easy to put on and take off and pretty robust.

Yep, look for OR Rocky Mtn or Wrapid (neoprene) if they still make them.

I don't know if I want to wear "iron" around my ankles!

(Probably not marketing to the UL crowd!!!)

    no weight listed either

I'm thinking DIY DCF low-top gaiters!

    or Event

here's what I use, but not a low top...

Mountain Laurel Designs makes what you want. They offer both a short and a long waterproof gaitor. Link was for the short one which weights 1.6 to 1.8oz depending on size. These existed 10 years ago when you bought your last ones beause I bought a set then. They seemed to hold up, but I rarely use them.

I too was dismayed when my own RAB Neo shortie gaiters were finally laid to rest. I also like the eVent MLD shortie gaiters https://mountainlaureldesigns.com/pr...rlight-gaiter/ They are now used infrequently. You might look into: http://zpacks.com/accessories/gaiters.shtml I returned my ZP's because they didnt fit my high volume instep correctly placing too much stress on the WP zip. I mostly prefer highly WR more breathable shortie gaiters made of stretchy thinner versions of Schoeller, which is much like Neo, but heavier than thinner Spandex wts like DG's(wets right out unless treated) and much like Durastretch which the Simblissity Shortie Leva gaiters were made, and/or a WP short sock in cold, muddy, snow, and constantly wet mixed conditions paired with low cut trail runners and mid low cuts.

It makes little sense to me pairing a WP gaiter with the wrong king of WP shoe or vice versa. The tongue has to be highly gusseted in the shoe and the gaiter has to cover all pts of precipitation entry. I felt better served using a WP sock, non WP shoe(some exceptions going to a WP trail runner), and a WP or WR shortie gaiter for backpacking in shallow snow depth, cold mud, and off trail wet brush.

There are WR shortie gaiters that have WP instep/low shin material areas I think made by OR. They are stretchy. NO underfoot lanyard. Much like the OR Surge and Altra designs held on the heels through friction. I have a pr bought from REI about 12-18 months back but haven't tried them yet. They may no longer be available. They look to be good for not wetting out walking in tall wet grass.

For info purposes I've been using WP crew length height HANZ socks effectively for several yrs. http://www.hanzusa.com/waterproofsocks/ I do want to demo the new Sealskinz thin and super thin WP ankle and crew height socks https://www.sealskinzusa.com/socks/s...black-grey.htm .

To anyone that has used the Zpacks short gaiter. Would the clip on the shoelace keep the gaiters in place or do you absolutely have to use the cord under the shoe?
