Default AT Trail conditions Central VT vs Eastern PA (specifically bugs)

Asking really about the bug report as I am planning to hike one or the other with my SO who is bug adverse and we have encountered some black flies in NY. Asking to know the least bugged route, how are the bugs in Eastern PA and in Central VT on the AT?

    Thanks

I can't speak for central VT, but the conditions here in the Whites are very similar. Black Flies are long gone. Water sources are drying up. However, a number of LT shelters and Lodges are located near lakes, so misquitos might be an issue in the evening. For some reason, they mostly respect the sancity of the shelter. Bugs or no bugs, I'd pick Vermont over PA this time of year, hands down.
