    Haven't carried one yet but maybe should've since I solo backpack, paddle, and adventure in remote off trail places. I've been fortunate to get myself out of potentially extreme fatal situations. I'm considering a PLB for a NZ trip.

    That is why I took the plunge. I too am a solo outdoorsman. Been in difficult situations.And very frequently in spots with no cell phone coverage. The only reason NOT to buy one for me had been $. However, I kept asking myself though how I might feel in a real life threatening situation where I needed one but had decided to skimp on a few hundred bucks. As an added feature, it is great peace of mind for my spouse and reduces her stress level a bit. It is worth a few extra ounces (imo) in my pack just for that alone.
