Default Mountain Crossings to Hot Springs - Fall 2018

I am looking for hikers interested in a Fall 2018 hike starting at Mountain Crossings and ending in Hot Springs, NC. Will consider ending in Gatlinburg, TN. I am a young 56yo male who prefers tents over shelters. I typically hike at a above average pace, but we can hike at our own pace and meet back up as needed.

Just a reminder that you would qualify for the thru hiker permit in the smokies which would eliminate having to schedule where you stay, and would make use of the tent you like to use (if the shelter is full)

Fall starts in September and ends in December. What dates are you considering?

I am wide open on any dates after September 10th. Would prefer not to be in the NC mountains come late Novemberor December.

If you want fall colors, you will need to push late oct-mid nov. It's different every year but an Indian summer that lasts until late November isn't uncommon. I'd say you're fine planning through mid-november. Warm days cool nights, After that it just depends.

I would be interested in doing that hike. But fall is a ways off. I'm 64 y/o , I like to get going early and hike close to sunset, I avoid shelters, 15/20 mpd. PS looking for hiking partners now. NC,SC,TN, or mabe anywhere?

How many miles is this hike and how many days are you planning?

Actually planning part of that trip for May - Neels Gap to Franklin (5-6 days). Still hope to do the remainder in the fall. My guess is the fall trip (Franklin to Hot Springs) will now be 14-16 days. PM me if you have any interested.

I'm always interested if I can figure out how to get there and back, but only for about 5-8 days. I've hiked with Mitch twice already and could come up with him if he's agreeable. I say 5-8 days since I've already hiked all of the AT in NC & TN. I might do more if I schedule the time, on the BMcK or other trail new to me.
