I camped by the water in Damascus and those beavers slapped their tails all night long but they never approached me or got aggressive. On a local river a few years ago I camped every week all summer long on the same gravel bar at a bend in the river and every night around 7pm a beaver would come out of the long deep pool and try to swim through the current at the bend in the river. The way it was situated the only part deep enough to swim in was very close to the shore, and every time he came around the corner my dog would jump up and bark. It usually took him 3 attempts to get around the corner before my dog saw him. After the second week it became a game to watch as it began to get dark.
Probably not as much of a fun game for the beaver.
