Default Buddy: Section hike Dick's Creek Gap GA to Fontana Dam beginning Memorial Day weekend

I prefer to hike alone but when I tripped and broke my wrist near Woody Gap in August I had to concede that it really is safer to have a hiking buddy. I live in north GA and completed the GA section solo last summer. I hike at a pretty good pace and am pretty introverted, so I don't need to talk much. Hubby can be our shuttle on both ends and in the middle for resupply, if necessary.

Sorry to hear you broke your wrist. Did that happen on the trail? Did you have help getting back to town?

Yes, it happened on the trail. Luckily, I live about 30 minutes from where the AT crosses Hwy 60 in GA at Woody Gap and I was only about a mile in, so I just drove home and went to my local urgent care.

I got myself an inreach in case of emergencies when I hike solo. Your family can also track where you are. If you always depend on having someone to hike with you won’t get out nearly as much.

Totally agree, Maineiac64. I'm trying to placate my significant other who doesn't understand my need to be alone in the woods.

    Hey Stitches,
I can relate to the broken wrist. I broke mine in the Smokies, fell off a sleeping platform. Anyway, I love to hike. I just don't think I like hiking alone. I wanted to do the Foothills Trail over Memorial Weekend, but couldn't find anyone to go with me. I would consider going with you to Fontana. How many miles is it?
