I wish you luck in getting a permit.
It felt like I had won the lottery when I got my permit to go from HI to WP in 2016.

Assuming you get a permit, here's my suggested travel plans:
    Day 1: Fly to Sacramento.
Stay at the Vagabond Inn located across the street from the Amtrak Train Station (they have a shuttle that can get you from the airport to the hotel.
Day 2:Walk across the street and take Amtrak to Yosemite Valley (actually, there's a bus transfer somewhere along the way, but it's one ticket you pay Amtrak to get from Sacramento to Yosemite).
Book a campsite for Yosemite Valle (as early as possible months in advance) or stay in the hikers campground.
Day 3: Start your JMT hike
Day N: Hike to the Whitney Portal, get cleaned up, and hitch a ride into Lone Pine.
Stay in any one of a dozen hotels (close to McDonalds). If you can get there before dinner time, you shouldn't need any reservations.
Day N+1: Catch the East Sierra Transport bus from the McDonalds Bus Station and ride to Reno
Fly home (needs to be an afternoon flight).

Is outright advertising like that kosher?

How often do you update your guides. Considering buying for a 2019 trip, but not if it's going to see an update before next year.

It's the JMT. What's to update? Nothing's changed since they bypassed Junction Pass.

When I posted the availability of the free PDF's in 2014 no one seemed to mind!

I've contributed to whiteblaze for the last 11 years, so I'm thinking I'm not a spammer.

LOL. Even if I don't update them for 2019 they will still be the most current. But yes, I will update them annually as I get feedback from hikers.

We got our permit! Not for the full number of hikers, but for our fallback number (3). August 28 to September 20. Happy Isles to Whitney Portal. Also, got Half Dome permits too.

I got your book too and appreciate it! Will start poring over the details. Lots to absorb for a JMT thru-hike.
