Default Maple Camp Bald, Black Mountains

Anybody have experience camping here? Was there any wind break? Is the closest water the spring near Commisary Ridge?

If I can get away for a weekend in March, I'm thinking about taking the Buncombe Horse Trail from 472 up and hiking some of the Mt Mitchell trails I haven't done yet.

Hiked up Buncombe to this spot a few years ago. Zero wind protection so make sure to strap down anything that might rattle during the night, like my tent zipper! Lol. Lots of thorns on the short section of trail approaching the Bald.
