Default Seam sealing: Spray on or brush on?

I bought a SilNylon tarp that was supposed to be seam-sealed at the factory but it doesn't look like it was.

I don't mind seam-sealing the ridgeline myself but should I use spray-on sealant or brush-on sealant or doesn't it make a difference?

    Thanks in advance.

Four tents later and I'm still using brush on seam sealers.
My last tent is silnylon & I used a small foam brush and diluted GE Silicone. The tent passed a 6 hour rain test outside Leadville last summer.

If by spray on you mean a silicon spray, no that won't seal the seam. That helps repel water from the fabric. Check to see if the seam is taped. That's a common way to seal a seam which needs a lot of flexibility. I find buying a commercially formulated brush on sealer for the type of fabric you have to work the best.

Thanks for the answers. It appears brush is the way to go.

I did check to see if there was tape and it appears there is not. The ridgeline has a sewn fabric on the outside holding the two pieces together so I will probably be adding a line of silicone on the inside.

A sealer applicator bottle/brush for applying tile grout seal works wonders. I've sealed a dozen tents with this.
