Does anyone know what the snow depth is in that area now? Two inches of slush is not the same as 12 inches of slush. Looks like Sunday morning will be a pleasant ice skate.
I believe cmoulder said he would be in the park on Wednesday, today, so stand-by for a report.

    Paul and all,

When I planned the reconnaissance hike for today (Wed) the forecast called for a string of days with daytime temps that were only a bit above freezing, and there wasn't a huge amount of precip predicted.

As it sits now, the very warm temps and much higher rain totals are going to change things quite a bit. It was 42 deg yesterday with a lot of melting, and it is going to be well above freezing for more than 48 hours straight by Saturday morning with about 1.5 inches of rain. So anything I might see today would not be helpful. From where I live I can see some of the hills on the East side of the park and already what snow there was (maybe 6 inches) is disappearing quickly. I would not be surprised if it is totally gone by Saturday morning.

    Friday conditions:

Right now I would plan on wet/mud and changing over to "skating rink" as Scotty says... bring yer microspikes!

I am still contemplating making a mad dash into Tom Jones sometime Friday if there is a gap in the deluge. Is anyone else planning to be at Tom Jones come hell and high water??

And sorry I came across as Mr. Fun Vacuum earlier... I was just looking forward to some actual winter, which is my favorite season. Sometimes it takes a while for me to re-set my expectations and attitude.

It is now looking very likely that I will join you all at some point mid-morning on Saturday (likely after you have started walking) and stay for brunch Sunday. Any suggestions for the best parking in this case? Hopefully I will be in contact with a few of you day of to see where you are when I get there.

Just thought I'd put that out there in case it's an issue with anyone

with rain on Friday, and melting snow, I figure it's going to be kinda wet walking
I figure to use my Sorrel Caribou boots so my feet stay dry.
    They are heavy, but waterproof.
What do you folks think of that idea?

you must have enjoyed the off-the-ground hammock experience!

and you might be going for a temperature range record, likely 60 or 70 degree temperature difference friday to saturday night!

I should be leaving my car at Johnsontown circle around 2 today, and will see you whenever at Dutch Doctor! will probably walk the longer way around...
