I think it is sad when we ban something broadly across a category based on examples of bad behavior instead of banning the bad behavior! Why create this dichotomy of pro dog vs. anti-dog when the problem isn't the dogs, it's the behavior of dogs and owners. And frankly, I expect that nearly every person both pro and anti-dog on these forums would agree that banning bad behavior is a good thing even if we don't agree that banning dogs is a good thing. AND, maybe if we talked of banning the problem behavior instead of the dogs there would be more buy-in from dog owners to own and reduce the problems instead of saying "screw it" to the idea of broader bans.

Along the lines of banning dogs, maybe we should also:
- Ban all alcohol on the trail instead of the associated bad behavior
- Ban all college age men on the trail instead of the associated bad behavior
- Ban all electronic devices on the trail instead of the associated bad behavior

This could go on and pretty soon we will feel more free in the middle of downtown Manhattan than we will on the trail.
