Can't wait to watch her video and learn what gear she liked and what she would leave home next time.

She is not the youngest person to "hike" the AT. She is the youngest person to be mostly carried the length of the AT.

The comic material involving their pack shakedown has to be pure gold.

Yes I was wondering about that, If carrying counts the youngest must have been a fetus. Title to me is still held by Buddy Backpacker.

Who cares whether she hiked, or rode in a backpack. She is the youngest to travel the trail

The Family From the North included at least one pre-school child. Younger than Buddy I believe.

it is against park rules to be above treeline under the age of 6 in Baxter State Park - so how did they complete the trail?

They had one still nursing, couldn't talk yet, in diapers. I don't recall the age. It's in the Barefoot Sisters book.

They can get wavers, Buddy Backpacker got one. Also ATC's rules would allow them to skip it if I read it correctly if a waver was not given and it was closed to them. The hike I guess would end at treeline on Katahdin.

The parents went up Katahdin without the baby, because of the under 6 rule.

I wonder if she did the Approach Trail? Either way, she now has memories for the rest of her life!

At under 2 years old she probably won’t remember as she gets older. I know I don’t remember anything from that age. Maybe a love of the outdoors will be imprinted on her.

They did did a flip flop, starting in VA, south to Springer, then to Katahdin, and south back to VA.

I saw a video of Buddy on top of Katahdin. His parents got an exception was my understanding. I don't know about the babies riding in backpacks. I would think it would be rather unsafe.

A baby riding in a backpack at 2 mph is probably safer than a baby riding in a car at 70 mph.

Well that's true. And I suppose they'd be more careful re: his diet and health than they would be their own.
