Either when shuffling through those dusty retail chains, getting gassed up and potato chipped at the station, or finding one down at the bookstore, with a cup of joe and without, there is that rare chance.

Tell me, what good titles is judged worth a looksee? There are too many to count.

    A few favorites:
    -National Geographic
    -Psychology Today
    -Economist

Nat Geo - I quit reading/subscribing with all the climate change stuff, though.

Southern Living - I like the recipes and seeing places to visit someday.

Tezas Living - articles about my home State

WoodSmith - I'm amazed at the projects, woods and tips. I'd LOVE to have that space and equipment.

    Reader's Digest - duh.

Otherwise - anything with words. I NEED to read.

New York Review (formerly New York Review of Books) is intellectually stimulating and my favorite journal. It uses reviews of books, movies, art shows and other things as a jumping off point for thoughtful essays on a lot of topics of interest. A drawback is that it won't be stocked on the shelves of your typical rural retail outlet close to a trail, if you are looking for reading material during a hiking trip.

Understand that! I'll read the back of the toothpaste tube if nothing else is available!

An odd one for this forum: I was gifted with a subscription of Motorhome Magazine a couple of years ago when DW (motorhome-eze for Darling Wife) and I bought one. Very first edition we received had an article on how to maintain and tune up the very generator in ours. Plus, like Southern Living, reviews of lots of places to visit. We use it as HQ for my nonhiking wife to hang out when I'm out hiking, so there's a tie-in, at least.

Awesome suggestions. Will definitely check out this Southern Living if I get the opportunity.

Just don't ever make the mistake of bringing a food/cooking magazine on a long distance hike.
