Bad news for those that flip-flopped.

    Locations? Depths?
Early snow is usually light and disappears quickly.
    The facts may be different.

Sounds like a few inches fell... at least around Yosemite and Mammoth areas...

...and like Venchka said, it's expected to disappear soon.

30% chance of snow on the PCT near Mammoth Lakes today and tonight. 40% chance of snow at Tuolumne tonight. West of Whitney 40% chance of snow, lows in the 20s, highs in the 40s. Kinda looking like more coming down from the northwest. Could be an early end to the season.

Unlikely. I have snowed on every month of the year in the Sierra. There is still more hiking to be done.

Same in Rockies, Steamboat had 3"s overnight, gone by noon.

However it will be a good snow year, elk wrestling early, aspens already golden. Time to wax the ole boards and double up on the Glucosamine.

I was thinking that thruhikers that were intimidated by snow earlier in the year may not want to be coping with snow, ice and 20 degree temps.

That was then. This is now. They have copied with real snow. This is nothing. By comparison.

I think there's a difference between waking up with a few inches on the ground, and trying to navigate Sierra passes covered in 20' of snow.

Yeah, they are snow shy but a few inches of fresh snow is nothing but a nuisance. Going into Sonora Pass I had a few inches of fresh snow on top of the 20' (or whatever it was) of Sierra Cement. It was a bit spooky when the fresh layer would move a bit when walking on it.

The Uintas in Utah got a bit more than a dusting.
