    Default Tent Waterproofing Melting Issues

Hi, I'm new to the forum. Thanks for allowing me to post.

I have a Moss Outland 1 man tent and a Eureka semi dome. They are about 17yrs old and the coating has become very tacky. I saw somewhere that this is referred to as 'melting' .

The vendor advised me to sprinkle the fly and floor with baby powder to mitigate folding and unfolding difficulties. Which, I have done. Anyone on WhiteBlaze have this issue? Would really appreciate any feedback. Thanx Gar

The urethane coating on the fly and floor is breaking down - you'll likely notice an odor as well. Nothing can really be done to stop it. There are places that can make a new fly for it, and the existing fly can be recoated supposedly, but I don't have a link. My Starlet succumbed to this problem as well, but I sold it at a pretty reasonable price anyway - they (Moss) draw a good price especially with the California crowd. Supposedly there are a few folks left that used to work for Moss in Camdem, ME back when they were there that still do repairs.

    4EyedBuzzard,

thanks. My Moss seems to have stopped off gassing. The tackiness has all but disappeared. I've been storing it loose hanging it in a closet. Just a few bits of discolouration when I last used it. I took a spray bottle of water to it and the water rolled right off. Going to apply some Nik waterproof/UV spray. Maybe there is hope for other Moss owners experiencing the same.
