There is no such thing as free.
Nothing will completely relieve the stress of anticipation like actually getting out and doing some trips.
Do the first trips in nice weather to gain some confidence and learn how to use your kit. Do some more trips in slightly adverse weather to learn how to handle it and find shortcomings in your gear and — especially — your outdoor skills. Then do a trip or two in some truly *****ty weather (cold+wet) and if you make it through those still excited about backpacking you have arrived.
