Gerry's turtle collection included both turtles and tortoises - stuffed animals, carved from stone, made from metal, solar-panel turtles, turtle lights, turtle colors. Gerry had both turtle and tortoise qualities. Tortoise energy enables one to access and use their inner vision, guides one in using patience as a means to manifest their dreams, and teaches one to use their internal GPS. Turtle energy enables one to embark on quests to find wonders and treasures on earth and in heaven, to be able to go inside and connect within oneself to find inner peace and harmony, and is about one's immortality of spirit. Gerry had a great combination of turtle/tortoise qualities. Please feel free to access these qualities by connecting to Gerry on the AT. With love.

Gerry's turtle mantra: Persist to succeed.
    BAKASANA (Crane yoga pose)
Gerry persisted where others would give up and move on. He practiced yoga to accomplish more advanced poses such as the Crane pose. He would quite often demo his advanced poses to his family and friends.
The spiritual qualities of crane blend well with turtle's spiritual qualities: both use patience to achieve their goals, turtles use their intuition while cranes use knowledge to guide themselves through life, both go inward and connect to heaven (their higher aspects), and both progress through their lives with open, loving hearts.
Hiking enables you to use both intuition and knowledge to begin your personal journey, to learn and adapt along the way, and to reach your destination.
Hiking presents an opportunity to connect with nature as well as your higher aspects, and the chance to synchronize your rhythms with both heaven and earth.
As you hike the AT, feel free to connect with Gerry as a spiritual guide and teacher, and tap in to his persistence.

Today is Columbus Day in the USA and Thanksgiving in Canada. In French, Thanksgiving is jour d'action de grāces. It's a time for gathering with family and friends, a time to count our blessings, a time for reflection, and a time to prepare to go inward as winter approaches. Thanksgiving was a very special time for Gerry, he loved to have everyone over to celebrate. We're very thankful, in this busy world, that Gerry took every opportunity to connect with family and friends. that he loved traditional European food, that he liked to add special ingredients and challenge us to identify them, that he enjoyed the company and shared many stories and lessons with us. Whenever you gather with family and friends, may you be blessed with grace, and may time stretch for you so you can enjoy and treasure every moment. Make time to celebrate with those who are special to you. With love and gratitude.

Gerry's turtle lesson: Reach out, connect, and build strong relationships.
Heart energy - starting the conversation.
Strong bonds are created when heart-to-heart energies are connected and are in synchronization.
Live a life without fear, and unite through similarities rather than differences. There are many ways to connect to heart energy: through breath, shared experiences, laughter, hiking, meditating, eating foods with high frequency, being grateful, practising forgiveness, balancing your chakras and harmonizing them through your heart chakra.
Please feel free to share your own way to connect to your own heart energy and to someone else's.
    With love ♥

    Hi Everyone,

    More on heart-to-heart connections.

The heart is an electromagnetic frequency generator, stronger than the brain in the human body. The heart's energy communicates in several ways with brain energy.

Synchronization and coherence between and heart and brain energies is very important for overall health as well as to our interactions with others and our environment.

What is coherence? Overall, coherence enables us to understand meaning and purpose in life. Coherence is harmonious function between body systems on physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels. Coherence is also ascribed to the order of the body systems' cycles and output frequencies and their tendency to work together.

Have a look at the following link for more information on heart-to-heart connections:

Gerry's favorite bear-proof container used on many hiking trips across the States and Canada - he strapped it to his backpack when hiking and suspended it from a tree when overnighting.

Gerry collected feathers whenever he came across them while hiking.
Each feather was considered to be a gift. Gerry shared these feathers with family and friends.

Whenever a feather crosses your path, you may wish to consider the following quote:
"May you have heaven in your heart, starlight in your soul, and angels all around you." (Author unknown).

One of Gerry's favorite hiking areas was the Bruce Trail in Ontario, Canada, especially the Rattlesnake Point to Crawford Lake Trail. The trails are open year round, varying levels of difficulties for hikers.

Gerry named himself GPS Ger several years ago.
Since birth, Gerry always had a good sense of direction and a strong moral compass. Gerry loved to explore nature and had sure footing and direction when he hiked.
Turtle energy enables one to tap into their own internal GPS, and since Gerry resonated strongly with turtle energy, he could easily access his internal compass and use his internal GPS.
Feel free to connect to Gerry's turtle energy at any time whether you're hiking or not.

Turtles have another biological sense (other than the main 5 physical senses) called magnetoreception, which basically means that they can sense and respond to the earth's magnetic field. Turtles are born with this sense and they can return back to their birthplace through geomagnetic imprinting. Turtles use magnetoreception to navigate to/from their destinations, and to avoid danger. It appears through recent research that human beings may also have this sense of magnetoreception.

Turtle mantra: You have the heart!

It takes courage to be authentic (to be true to yourself) and to allow others to see you as yourself.
It takes courage and compassion to display your own vulnerability to others and to not rely on means to cover up your vulnerability with distractions and addictions.
It takes courage to love, to treat others with compassion, and to allow them the space to be themselves rather than imposing your thoughts and feelings on them.
It takes heart to love and know that you are loved and accepted for who you are.
It takes heart to know that you belong and to allow others to belong.
It takes heart to know that you are worthy of love as are others.
It takes heart to be willing to express your love and to return love when it is given.
It takes heart to know that you are in a place where you can express your joy, creativity, and your true nature.
It takes heart to take a difficult path in life, to experience life fully, to go on your own thru-hike.

Neurobiologically, we thrive on when we are able to connect with others ... through love, compassion and acceptance.
Turtle energy is about connecting the heart energy of Earth with the heart energy of heaven. On your life’s trail, you’ll have many opportunities to connect heart-to-heart. If you need some insight in to how to do this, feel free to connect with Gerry’s turtle energy.

    With love ♥.

Gerry had many red-tailed hawk feathers in his collection. Years ago, he met with native North American Indians and learned more about red-tailed hawks and other animal spirits. Red-tailed hawks are guardians of the earth, revere all life, and have an inner knowing about the interconnection of humans, animals and the earth. Those who connect with red-tailed hawks become involved with environmental concerns and in making the earth a better place to live. Gerry was a true environmentalist, involved in activities to protect and restore land and habitats, generate the least amount of waste as possible, and encourage others to take up environmental concerns.

When you come across red-tailed hawk feathers on your life's trail, take up the challenge to join with others to make the earth a better place to live.

I don't mean to be a buzz-kill here, but while I really like what you're saying about animal spirit guides, it's important to know that except for exceptional circumstances, it's illegal to possess the feathers of a Red-tailed Hawk (as it is for nearly every other native, non-game bird.)

Give thanks, listen and learn, and leave it with nature.

Thanks, TwoSpirits, for providing readers with more detailed info on feathers. You're correct about non-game bird feathers, however under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918, exceptions are given to native North American Indians. I should have clarified this in the post: Gerry was given these feathers by native North American Indians because of the environmental work he was helping them with. Respect the environment and the laws of the land.

    Note to readers:
If you come across the red-tailed hawk feathers, leave them where you found them; you can choose to acknowledge the message that the red-tailed hawk feather brings to you, and take up the challenge of making the earth a better place to live.

    Vanilla candles:

Gerry loved to use vanilla candles. We'll be lighting some vanilla candles in remembrance of Gerry during the holidays.

Vanilla extract (or preferably) essential oil provides a warm and inviting aroma, and is used in many applications and recipes. Vanilla has healing properties: fights infections, calms inflammation, relieves sore muscles, anti-depressant, prevents growth of cancer cells. Vanilla is used with other essential oils as an insect repellent.

Scents are another type of frequency (or vibration as you will) that we can sense. Other types of frequency include light and sound. It's a matter of where the frequency is situated within the harmonic octaves and what sense we used to detect and interact with the frequency. It's been said that people can recognize the presence of spiritual beings through various means, including scent (or fragrance). So, if you call upon Gerry's turtle energy, you may be able to know he's there by the scent of vanilla.

    Merry Christmas and happy holidays.

    Gerry's philosophical musing:
Without pi, there is no life.

Pi is an irrational, yet magical, number.
Pi is connected to cycles that experience every moment on Earth: breathing, circadian rhythms, your heart beat, the moon orbiting the Earth, the Earth orbiting the sun, tides flowing in and out, streams flowing, sun rise and sun set. We see pi everywhere in nature when we truly look. When we watch a raindrop falling in slow motion, we see the ripples generated based on pi. When we observe a rainbow appear in the sky, pi is at work in the rainbow unfolding and recreating itself. Pi is obviously noticeable in anything that has a circular shape (the sun, moon, fruit, our eyes).
Pi is involved in every frequency we sense and interact with, be it sound, light, scent or other frequency.
Pi is magical in that it presents possibilities and impossibilities at the same time (kind of quantum ).
Pi is mysterious as we have yet to completely understand it. Even our DNA structure is based on pi, and how it interacts with various frequencies in our environment.
And perhaps pi connects us to both heaven and Earth and beyond, just as turtle energy has the capability to connect earthly and spiritual energies. Could this be why turtles are considered to be one of the wisest creatures on Earth? And maybe we don't have to understand pi, just be able to connect to it and go with the flow, and let it take us where we need to be and where we can just "be".

From Gerry's family and friends, wishing everyone Merry Christmas and happy "pi-full" holidays.

Once when I was in university, I got really high and ate an entire pecan pie. Swear to Jebus. I mean, it was a store-bought pie and not as big as those that granny used to make, but still I thought it was an impressive feat. I was sitting at the kitchen table, and one bite lead to the next, one piece lead to the next, and before you know it, the whole damned pie was gone! Kept it down, too. That pie was kinda magical, kinda like the pi you're babbling about.
I wish you a big ol' pie for Christmas, too, Ironee. Don't wolf it down at one sitting, though!
