Is there any way to get from the southern end of Seg 9 to Leadville?

That was an easy hitch for me. Take a right out of the trailhead parking. Walk a bit to come to a junction down to the lake (you might get additional traffic coming out of the lake). Seems to me that the road south of lake would get more traffic. But, if you hear a vehicle coming the opposite way, throw out your thumb anyway as the road makes a loop around the lake and they may still pick you up. Both vehicles that passed me stopped and gave me a ride. One to a side road he was taking and the second all the way to the hostel. Worst case scenario is that it is only about 8 miles so would be less than 3 hour walk.

    What Lonehiker said.

The TH despite the name is located at the west end of Turquoise Lake about 6-7 paved road miles from downtown Lville. Lville Hostel offers shuttles to/from this TH. I don't know about cell ph reception at the TH though. Turquoise Lake has several Nat Forest CG's and day use picnic areas around it. They are used! May Queen CG entrance is just a few hundred yds(less than 1/2 mile?) from this TH. I've hitched from and to this TH twice getting an easy ride from those going either direction as LH said. If desperate walk down to the MQ CG and ask for or seek a ride from an angler or camper going into town. Getting back to the TH I've twice received rides from people staying at this CG once in late Sept/early Oct and once in Oct before the CG closes. My guess in Aug you'll find even more people - anglers, bathers, and campers...as long as Turquoise Lake isn't that far at a drought level.

Thanks Dogwood and Lonehiker. I think I will try to hitch and if I can't get a ride, I will just walk.

FYI, based on mapping programs it is 10 miles from the trailhead on the west end of Turquoise Lake to one of the bus stops on the Summit Stage bus route.

I was referring to 6-7 metric miles which is a bit less than an English system 6-7 miles.

Haha. It is probably around 7 miles to the edge of town. That was a distance to one of the bus stops.

Do you know when you will be there? I expect to be at Turquoise Lake with a vehicle about August 27-28.

LOL! Sorry, I forgot about that.
Maybe I'll be back then. I like that part of Colorado.

Alas, Dogwood, the rules have changed.
Forest Service campgrounds on Turquoise Lake close the Tuesday after Labor Day. It is very possible that the Forest Service campgrounds in the entire state of Colorado close the Tuesday after labor Day. I'm only familiar with the campgrounds I was staying in the week before Labor Day.

I do thank you for the CG closure dates. However, I've found people at Turquoise Lake in the fall - late Sept to mid Oct three sperate times to get rides in quick fashion to and from the Turquoise Lake TH.

Of course things change Wayne according to every individual's hike. It's called HYOH. Everyone has to work out their own hike. It's being responsible for working out the specific conditions and situation individually. I was providing general info but with some potentially useful details that I've personally experienced

I personally don't understand the closure so early in September. At the beginning of hunting season too. Very strange.

There's another potential getting a ride from group - hunters. And, again fisherman on Turquoise Lake
