The story chronicles the adventures of three teenage friends from the South Carolina Lowcountry who attempt a thru-hike of the AT in 2015. The story doesn't stray from trail life and is told by a hiking purist who doesn't skip or slack-pack. He sets out to hike the entire trail in Chacos which only ~5% of hikers wear. Georgia tests their will with over a solid week of rain and a concomitant injury which threatens to unravel the group. They travel partway with a female Australian hiker, during which the sordid side of the hiking community reveals itself. Trail angels and parents provide support and motivation along the way to the trail weary travelers. Opportunities for a unique experience are not overlooked in this once in a lifetime adventure. The notorious White Mountains of New Hampshire present them with a level of danger any hiker who dares climb to the dwelling place of The Great Spirit should take heed of. Which of them will prevail over the trail is for the reader to discover. The story presents the human side of the struggle to conquer this beloved footpath.
