    Default Starting Date 2020

My ideal starting time for a NOBO AT thru would be April 1st, I was thinking of possibly doing the Approach Trail March 31st. (This will be my first thru hike attempt) April - September? is six months long enough, although I could do it in five I want some extra time. Any alternative starting dates are welcome.

April 1st is fine, but there will be a lot of other people starting that day as well. I personally would leave late April.

Leaving in April you miss most of the bad winter weather, but not all.

You should not have any issue finishing the trail if you leave anytime in April.

    1. Age?

    2. Activity level NOW vs. THEN?

    3. Experience?

    4. Medical conditions?

    5. Weather in 2020?

LOTS of variables. 6 months seems doable for many people. Good luck.

I was just wondering if that was some way of saying April 20 that I was unfamiliar with (Euro maybe). I am heading out Around April 12 ish and see you are talking about going too. I may still be out there in 2020 if I turn around and head back the other direction. Cheers. Did not mean to offend. Was late at night and thought maybe I was confused!

Not offended. Just curious. Been planning in my head for over a year. Now when I clothes shop I base some purchases on my upcoming attempt. Im getting used to not wearing cotton all the time

I found some skirts. Cant think of brand right now but they are very water resistant. Spilled soda in lap rinsed off with water. Barely felt damp. Dried quickly.

Ah. I like a Montbell hiking skirt. Very very lightweight nylon weighs nothing in the pack. Mountain Hardwear used to make an excellent men's kilt that I wore but then they Scottished it up and added literally a pound maybe to the weight of it. It looks very stylish. Now I go with Montbell. Sorry that you won't be out there sooner!
