    Default Down quilt recommendations

I am looking to get a down quilt instead of using my mummy sleeping back what do you recommend? Thanks in advance!

This: get the XL if you're not hammock camping - it's wider & gives you good coverage on the ground. Well-made in USA, top quality.

Look at the Katabatic quilt for sale here at WhiteBlaze. Good brand and all around temperature rating.

We're happy with our Enlightened Equipment 2-person quilt, and I'm planning to order a 1-person later this summer.

Hammock Gear, Jack's R Better, Zpacks, Enlightened Equipment. Take your pick. Personally, I buy by lightest weight. I have 2 quilts, a 40F that the footbox unsnaps and opens flat for warmer weather (HG) and a 20F where the footbox is sewn together for better warmth (EE).

You didn't give us any requirements so it's hard to recommend one. Your expected temperature use affects the style I'd recommend. Your budget also affects the choice of manufacturer and type of fill.

Warbonnet Mamba in either regular three season for $275 or XL three season for $305. I use the XL with a hammock.

I have an Enlightened Equipment Enigma and love it. It's the same as a Revelation, only with a sewn foot box.

Sorry about that. I should have mentioned that it wont be for hammock camping

There isn't a real difference in a normal quilt and a hammock top quilt. So don't let the word hammock throw you. Just ignore bottom quilts as they are hammock specific.

Any of the "top" quilts will work for tenting. Many makers will recommend their wide option for ground sleeping.

Hmmm not for a hammock... OK I got this. Every Saturday for a few hours you can walk into a Sam's Club without a membership and score this for $20 Then go buy a small waterproof stuff sack for it. Do not leave it in the stuff sack when at home. I think it's 1 pound...

Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them.

No problem. When I tent camp, I still use the Mamba instead of a bag, because it is a waste to sleep on down that is crushed and not keeping you warm.

I am using an enlightened equipment revelation 20 for first time this season and am on the fence about going back to a regular bag.

I agree with the above post- regret not going to quilts sooner. I've sold all my sleeping bags (aside for a -20 for mountaineering in Alaska) and gone entirely to quilts. Think I'm at 5 right now including one for 2 ppl (though with one 40 deg Katabatic for sale- not enough posts to list in on the classifieds). I absolutely love them down to about 0 degrees.

Make sure you get one that's wide enough (which has been my largest learning curve), and if going below 40 degrees I have to have a down balaclava.

Also note that some of the designs for attaching to ground pads can pop inflatable pads. Put several holes in my Thermarest. Obviously a non-issue for foam pads.

    Cheers!
    Dave

Can't praise Zpacks enough. Their design is half Quilt and half Mummy minus hood. Custom order Length Width and Temperature rating. Finest quality materials and greatest versatility.

Underground Quilts is another. I have one for their 40 deg, snap closed footbox for warm weather (haven't needed a cold weather quilt - yet).

That's the one withOUT the footbox right? What didn't you like about it? I've tried unzipping my bag and using it as a quilt and am about 50/50 pro/con.
