    Default Half Thru Southbound

Hello everyone. I'm new to this forum but not to backpacking. It good to be here.

Aaaanny way, I am looking at late October to begin a southbound hike to Springer. My main concern is water availability along the trail for that time of year. Also, any tidbits of advice from those who have hiked the southern half would be awesome.

    Thanks in advance,

    Bob

It CAN get pretty cold ... or not ... I've hiked sections of the south every October for about the last 6-8 years and found is a great time to be in the woods. But, you are likely to have at least some cold weather. As to water, as long as you only count on the sources that are in the books as "reliable", you will be fine anything that is intermittent will likely be dry until spring ... unless we have a wet fall, then all bets are off (you may have water everywhere). Enjoy the fall ... unfortunately in LATE October you will likely miss the peak of the color....

Awesome Turtle, thanks for the advice. Ill be hiking through December. If water starts to become to scarce I will just pull it off the trail. No need to let my kidneys shut down out of pride. Hopefully it'll snow. :-)

Snow is a good thing. Rain is not good. You will see winter. Single digits, maybe negative numbers. Find Tipi Walter's trip reports for November and December. Pay attention.
Stay dry. Stay warm. Have fun.

Don`t forget to take orange clothing so you will not be mistaken for a deer.
