Thumbs up So I made an Appalachian Trail mobile game

I recently released an Appalachian Trail mobile game on Google Play and the App Store! It's called Thru-Hiker's Journey.

    first.png

It's an updated version of the free web game I made a few years ago (atthruhike.com). Gameplay is very similar, but now it has graphics and a bunch of other updates.

So far the reception has been very positive, although I did have to quickly patch a couple things since I released on Tuesday (Apple is still a version behind, because Apple). I'd love for you to give it a try and let me know what you think!

Looks great! I'll check it out.

Will you have a way of tracking the FKT?

I have some analytics installed. So I can check it periodically, but it's not displayed anywhere publicly.

It is intresting but I am usef to the old game. It took me a while to figure out that I had to manually eat. Also energy seems to go faster. If I could somehow combine the 2 games. I think I would like it more.

I think we could be a bit more creative with events that can happen:

Run over by a FKT hiker - Lose energy
You pass a FKT wannabe - Gain energy
BSP permits for the year are used up - Your hike is over.
Trail "magic" hiker feed - Gain Food
Have fun at Trail Days - Spend $500 on bail.

    More?

Add weather as a factor in mileage, especially in the Whites.
Add emotion and loneliness as a factor for energy, but you might need to give the opportunity to bond with groups to make it feasible.
Add an option for the 4 state challenge. You could have ghost opponents named Bigfoot (100 days) and one named Anish (FKT) that you are competing with.
    Have opportunities to Yellow Blaze.
Have Baltimore Jack appear in random places and imbue you with divine hiker wisdom that increases stats.

I'm loving all these ideas! There are definitely gameplay additions planned for the future, so I'll use them if I can!

Well. I'm about to run out of money, energy and health somewhere in Virginia.

I made it to Virginia the first time New York Second time.

I think adding another option in town to hit a restaurant and refill a good amount of health by curing the hiker hunger would be a good option. And would need to watch the money spend in town a bit

    It's a neat little game.
Definitely need another option or 2 while "in town".
Maybe break up the monotony of the hiker just running along flat ground with some terrain.
You spend all your time trying not to run out of food and energy so how about add in a few more variables?
Why not have an outfitter in town to upgrade gear?

Also some sort of memory for your longest hike while your trying to complete it. I also noticed it doesn't rotate with the phone like some other games do as well.

It's a fun game, and I thank you for making it. With that said here is my unnecessarily harsh posting:

Looks like I found a bug: I have noticed on iOS that the clothes upgrade that is suppose to carry more food does not, still and always 10 meals (and if it matters each meal restores only 10, regardless of the food carrying upgraded clothes).

Would like to see's: I would like the option to eat a 4th meal in a day, pretty darn common on the trail, and helpful for pulling those long sections. Special upgrades along the way, either hiker boxes, found en-route or for sale. More trail magic (especially NoBo) - comeon, this is the AT ferchrisake. The development of trail legs, more miles per day after 3-4 weeks have gone by.

Also I think this is very lacking, once on town not being able to see the distance to the next town or shelter.

I've also noticed the bug with the food on Android.
