Default Anyone bought New 2017 GG One yet?

I have a 2009 version of this tent and am considering replacing with the new version.
i have been extremely happy with it to this point. But it is showing signs of wearing out.
Seven years with lots of use not bad. I'm sure it would last a couple more, but I am planning a long trip this year and I think it may be time for another tent.

i am looking for an assessment of the new tent, not necessarily other tent recommendations.
as I said before I really like my 2009 version of The One.
i could make this tent last one more year but it may be time to replace it.

    Any reviews?

I really liked my 2010, great storm protection. It was a little fiddly but as long as I left the adjustments alone, it set up quit. I just migrated to more flexible and lighter options so I sold it.

It was hugely popular. But when they lost the spinnaker source, most potential customers went to zpacks, and now its a bit pricey for the wt imo.

I also have used lighter options, such as a Patrol shelter, which I still use on occasion. But for 10 days in the Winds in September I like to rely on my GG One as on four previous trips.

I've looked at it and like it. It does have a couple of quirks, but has impressive weather capabilities. With the recent price drop, it really does become a viable player against Zpacks when price is a large factor...

Still leaning a bit towards the Tarptent ProTrail, though...

TarpTent fabrics are 30D with 3,000 mm hydrostatic head.

The Gossamer Gear shelter is way behind.

    Fabrics

Tent body: Custom-formulated 7d high tenacity nylon blended sil/pu coating waterproof to at least 1200mm.

Tent floor: Custom-formulated 10d high tenacity nylon blended sil/pu coating waterproof to at least 1200mm.

I was wondering about a old model verse new as well. My old eventually wore, out. patched it. Then gave it away. Haven't checked out the newest versions since GG went back on line having it available

    Here ya Mike.

Before someone else says it I've always wished for GG to offer it in a .74 Dyneema Comp.

I don't understand your comment. The One and the ProTrail are both single-door, single-vestibule, single-wall tents. The Notch is a double-door, double-vestibule, double-wall tent....

The GG is considerably lighter than the boat-anchor notch.
Or anything Shires has ever produced..

And you dont need to slather it with goop to seal seams.

The sil/poly u fabric is what allows taping to adhere, and is why mfgs like BA and others use it.

The Notch is good enough to take some strong winds and some wet snow too. Not designed for winter use but not bad either.
Tarptent could have lighter shelters too but Henry is not confident in using fabrics below our current 30d, in fact we have increased the weight in the last few years by going to stronger versions of silnylon.

Interesting that a 27oz shelter is now a boat anchor...(with stakes the One is about 6 oz lighter)

    I meant "comfortable" not confident...
BTW, using the same stakes the One is about 4 oz lighter than the Notch.

And the One is 30 inches wide at the ends. The Notch is only 20 inches wide at the ends, yes? And 2 square feet less floor space in the Notch.

I can't use any tent that is only 20 inches wide at both ends...that's a bivvy...with headroom...

At least the Notch isn't the brick that SD's new Skurka is at 37 ounces...

The Notch takes a 25"x77" mat, good enough for most.
Yes it is 20" wide at the ends but 34" in the middle, the ends are 84" apart.

That's why I'm going GG One instead of the notch, the notch seems like a coffin for my 6'3" frame. The extra weight savings are just icing on the cake.

As much as I like the One, I also like the ProTrail...

For me, I also have to put the Nemo Hornet 2P in the running. 32 ounces, double-wall, double-door, double-vestibule, free-standing, almost enough space for two, a palace for one. That weight includes the tent's pole structure! Granted, it's 12 ounces more than the One, but only 6 ounces more than the ProTrail...A hundred bucks more money than the ProTrail...but it is already fully waterproof....the seams have been taped...

It will be a specialist tent for me and the dog, or just me. For me and the dog, there isn't really any debate, it's the Nemo Hornet 2P.

For just me...kinda leaning towards the One...

Although, if I didn't have a 3P tent already, I'd get the BA FCUL3. It's on close-out now at STP for 299. And, the 25percent STP coupon works, bringing the price of a fantastic 3P tent down to....$225. Unreal. If you need a big tent, grab this bad boy up. Mine has 300 something trail miles on it and shows no wear, no flaws, no issues. I replaced the guy lines with better/lighter and replaced the stakes with Ti hooks, it comes in at 3 pounds 5 ounces, all in...

GG's a good company and the One is a proven design. Happy Trails!

Various anecdotal posts on the web suggest you may be cramped with your height. The creator of The One is 6'4" and says he sleeps comfortable in it but one has to take that with a grain of salt.
