I had a bear encounter on 3 different occasions between 9:30 pm and !:30 AM on 2/24-2/25/17. I was at the site directly to the left of the shelter if you are looking right at it. Temps were around hi 50's to mid 60's at that time. My tent was the only only one there and there were two other hikers sleeping the shelter. I did report it to the GWNF, ATC via an incident report, and the Glendale-Pedlar ranger station. Be extra cautious there as trash was evident and untidy fire pits. In 30 years of camping I have never had an issue like this even when there was some trash around form time to time. It was evident they were around by the looks of the tree bark. Recommend carrying bear spray and use your bear bags at night. I was not injured but very close call, keep your heads on the swivel and enjoy the outdoors!
