Default When do you get that itch to get out and hike?

At what point in the Winter/Spring do you really get the itch to grab your pack and get out into the woods?
For me it is usually the beginning of February.
This year it was January because we had a really warm weekend and we did an overnight on the Buckeye trail.
I'm not much of a Winter hiker but I have to admit. I walk pasty gear every day and the urge to grab my bag and go is getting stronger! lol

I always get the itch, winter is great to get out into with either snowshoes or cross country skies every season makes me want to get out and backpack.

After about 15 days out my itch is scratched and then by Day 18 I'm ready to come home and placate the women. Then in about 7 to 10 days (after all the next trip food is dehydrated) I'm planning a new route and ready to hit the trail.

From April til October I try to get out twice a month. Always get out for at least 1 overnight a month. I always seem to find a way to squeeze in a few 4 day trips during the summer months.

I don't camp out in winter conditions, but that limitation doesn't keep me out of the woods. I walk about 4 miles locally on an almost daily basis. Even when I'm not all that motivated, my husky "reminds" me that it's time for a ramble.

I hike from October until April. I've done almost 200 miles so far this hiking season. I try to find pockets of good weather, but if I have a trip planned I'm going to go even if it rains or snows or is freezing cold. I don't hike in the summer time...its just too hot. I switch to a canoe and float the river.

    Does the itch leave??

I'm sitting at my desk, spending my break on White Blaze... just making the itch worse.

Yeah, it's more like a chronic condition. Always looking for an opportunity to get out.

When I just get back from a hike. That's when it's at its worst.
