Default Spring dates to avoid the bubble

I would like to hike Springer to Dicks creek this spring but want to avoid the thru hiker bubble. I don't have anything against them, I just want to avoid the crowd. What are the most common dates for this group to start? I did the approach to three forks but had to get off trail due to an injury to my partner this fall. Would like to finish the Georgia section. Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks for the info. I was actually thinking early-mid May. That may work out perfectly.

Mid May will be perfect. 95% of the thru hikers will be long gone. There will be plenty of other section hikers out, but very few thrus.

Mid to late May in Georgia is just awesome. Many fewer hikers, cool nights, warm days, water in the springs, wildflowers, birds.

Early March would be good, there will be just enough people to make friends but not too many that you feel suffocated. Past that I would say May to avoid the april bubble

    Default Thru-Hiker Registration Charts

Check out the thru-hiker registration charts on ATC's website to see the start date patterns from 2015 and 2016: http://appalachiantrail.org/home/exp...tration-charts. (Scroll down the page for nobo starts).

When you've decided on a start date, register it there too at www.appalachiantrail.org/thruhikeregistration. The registration for 2017 opens November 24.

This person is not doing a thru hike. Does ATC also want section hikers also registering?

I'm thinking of doing a similar section hike this spring.
