    Default Hiker, Victor Chunn

On the trail many years ago I met a hiker who seemed to have a leg injury but was heading on. I gave him my phone number and told him if he couldn't make it to call me. The next day he got a hitch into Franklin and called me from a pay phone. I went and picked him up and took him to get medical attention. After that he called me back and got a motel room at The former Haven Motel. He stayed for a few days hoping to gain use of his leg but it was causing him a big problem. I took him to the Atlanta Airport to go home.
    .
After sorter forgetting about him I got a call one evening a couple of years later. He said, you were so nice to me in Franklin and so were so many more people. He said, I have retired and just want to stay in that town a while. He moved to Franklin and shortly after I gave him a job. I know so many of you knew Victor because he worked at Budget Inn, Sapphire Inn, and Hiawassee Budget Inn as a manager. Just a hiker I met on the trail but was one of the most honest people I ever knew. He came back to visit us during hiker season this year in March and April. I just received word from his sister that he passed away yesterday in the Philippines.

In the case of Victor Chunn, thank you for being "The Good Samaritan." Well done, Sir .... well done, indeed.

    May Vic rest in peace.

That photo says it all--animals know what a person is made of. Sorry for your loss, Ron.

I know many of the past thru hikers remember Victor. Actually, he was retired military, and then retired from security in Las Vegas in one of the casinos before coming to Franklin.
