Good luck Rocket! Does this mean that Y'all aren't going to Wyoming as you mentioned recently?

Definitely hitting WY in mid-August, scored a Grand Teton climb/campsite permit then watching the eclipse from somewhere in mid WY (8/21), then the SHR for a couple weeks, than back to the AT in the fall.

Wife finally retired, all the time in the world now. SHR=Sierra High Route, runs parallel to the JMT, only at higher elevations, lot of off trail. 180 miles, supposedly spectacular. Not to be confused with the High Sierra Trail.

Bringing my pup along. She's an 11 year old 10 pound Miniature Pinscher named "Pbo-Pbo" (Korean) who goes by "Blind-spot" out on the trails She's hiked over a hundred miles with my over the years and has 2,200 pent up waiting to go! I've been wanting to do a thru-hike for as far back as I can remember and I won't do it without her. I'll carry her every step of the way if I have to

    Update to everything:

    Trail Name- TBD

    Trail Name----- Miguelon?
    Direction--------- North Bound
    Estimated Start Date--- Late February
Approach Trail - yes or no--- Yes, I guess. Kinda tempted to start at Maxpatch. Avoiding first 254 miles of trail/fire area. On the other hand it'd be nice to start at the beginning.

Things to know about me-- Newbie to hiking--though I have done a thousand miles bike touring.
For an idiot, I'm pretty smart. I love to joke around especially with puns.
I'm into the History of English & Spanish Languages, &
History in general. I'm just finished my MA to become an English teacher
--academic vocabulary for Spanish speakers was/is my emphasis.

I'm 47. Rotund 'n expect to be a master camper before becoming a master hiker.
I'm in Minneapolis, MN right now, but we just moved here. Portland, OR Central Coast of CA, S. Korea before that.

If someone wanted to rideshare/travel down to the trail that'd be great. I'm not looking forward to greyhound.... But, that's not gonna be as tough as the trail to come, I know.

Base Weight right now is 13 Lbs ish. https://lighterpack.com/r/flkpey

I hope to average 50 miles a week, for the first month anyways.

    Best to you all,

    Miguelon

That's a really nice train ride. The California Zephyr, right? I rode from Chicago to Emeryville (pretty much San Fran) just last year. It was a great experience but take a pillow and heavy blanket, it was freezing!
