This is why I, over the last several years, have started to do the one-way rental car deal. It is a bit more expensive once you factor in a motel, gas, and food and takes about a day longer (at least driving out to the PCT for me). But, I get there with my gear, fuel, poles etc. and am ready to go. Luckily on my way out I have been able to wheel and deal with the Ft. Collins CO Enterprise. They have only been charging me $150 one-way fee whereas where I live wants $0.50 a mile.
