From the GSMNP last March 21st, after a Nor'easter came through. Yes, I'm from FL, so this was super cool to me. Probably just a boring pic to many northern friends.

Or this one: Looking to the TN (west) side of the trail:

These pictures are awesome!! It's amazing to see the different parts of the trail, some in which I'll probably never see in person myself. Keep posting!

It's a toss up. Got to see an incredible sunrise from Mcafee's after three days of heavy storms. That was pretty cool.

Took this three days ago on Mary's rock in SNP after a big thunderstorm.

Excited to get lots of shots from the whites when I reach them.

Just got back from an overnight at McAfee. Man, isn't that a beautiful place! just a little to crowded/popular for me but it was totally worth it. Great picture. That is amazing!!

Sunset on Jo Mary lake, from Antlers CG; my wife claims this was her favorite all-time campsite, and she has camped hundreds of nights.

Wow, I have many. Sadly when I hiked the AT back in the early to mid 1980's I didn't have a camera, sob.

This pic was taken near Walker Gap above Fontana in 2003. Weird thing is that I was camping off to the side of the trail and this white AT mark could only be seen from my campsite as the actual trail runs in a straight line between my pack and the tree.

I like this pic cuz it's clear and crisp and shows a hiking dog and a backpacker. Somewhere near Stecoah Gap.

This is 2006 in Cody Gap showing my hiking partner Amy Willow with some friends as she pulled a thruhike that year and I joined her for a bit.

A favorite pic of the AT passing thru "Grandmother Gap" on Wilburn Ridge in the Mt Rogers area. I always like camping in this gap. This would be in 2011.

This is a good one to send back to the wife at home: Old Uncle Fungus swarmed by the Women of the Wilderness---on the AT above Scales.

I have hundreds of "favorites" and I absolutely love seeing pictures above that others have posted!
Here's a recent one. It's from the summit of Lafayette (White Mtns) early on Saturday, July 9, 2016. Everything below us, which was a non-trivial series of peaks and valleys, was buried in a shroud of solid white, totally obliterated. Above was a layer of white. In between was this marvelous view. The sun was at just the right angle to highlight both levels. Looks like an ocean wave about to overwhelm us.

I have several pics like this from different open TN balds. Got a few more AT pics though---

Wouldn't be complete without Willow reading thru the trail register at Cable Gap shelter. (Very old shelter circa 1936??)

Stopping at the South Holston bridge checking out the trail magic.

I just hiked almost 30 miles south on the AT from the NRA headquarters/hiway 16 and stopped here at the Old Orchard shelter way below Mt Rogers. 2012.

Finally, no post is complete without showing the pizza delivery at Partnership shelter in Virginia.

Great pic. We (us hikers) all looked PRECEISELY the same back then... too short of shorts. Too much hair. Too much leather in our boots. White socks. Classic!
