Default Allenberry in Boiling Springs, PA Closed

We just got word from our regional office in Boiling Springs, PA that the Allenberry resort is closed. Hikers should not count on that option for lodging in Boiling Springs.

I've read that it was saved from the auction block at the last moment by a sale to an as-yet unnamed "local" buyer who plans to renovate, improve and reopen the resort. (Don't they always say that?) I wish them well.

When I stayed there last September they told me the future didn't look good. A shame. It's a neat place but now kind of a white elephant.

Stayed there on my PA section hike about 3 years ago. I appreciated the "local color" opportunity. Here's hoping it re-opens.

Wonder what happened. This article ten days ago says there is a new buyer who intends to make improvements. Is it possible the closing is temporary?

Stayed there last November. Great place, reminds me of the vacation spot in Dirty Dancing. I imagine it was very special in the 50's. But still a great place to stay last year. Hope it reopens.

Word is there was a new buyer, but no news yet on when it will re-open and whether there will be any special accommodations/rates for A.T. hikers.

This was a hidden gem. It was a bit run down when we stayed in '2010, but the sticky buns on the breakfast buffet were amazing. I hope things work out and it reopens/is still hiker friendly.

Here's an update: http://cumberlink.com/news/allenberr...5bbe81085.html No mention in this article whether the renovated Allenberry will be hiker friendly.

Renovations proceeding and set to re-open by Easter apparently. Says nothing about the new owners' attitude toward hikers.
