My son and I are planning to spend the night at Tricorner knob shelter this summer. Of course, we will have to hang our food. Is a bear proof bag required? Thanks,
Jon

No---there are cables
but that shelter, along with others, has a resident bear that will take packs and bags and whatnot....
Thank you for the information! Sounds like we need to keep our packs in the shelter with us when we sleep!
When I am somewhere with bear cables (like Tricorner Knob), I will hang my entire pack unless it's supposed to rain. With rain in the forecast I hang just my food bag.

its a good idea to have a carabiner that can clip foodbag/pack to cable
I've always hung my whole pack in the smokies.
Don't sleep with your food in the shelter unless you want the mice to share your breakfast, snacks, lunch, and dinner! Use those cables, and use a clip to hang your bag with. You can use a dry bag system (sold where kayak/boating gear is found, and in come gear stores) to keep your food dry when hanging. The dry bags come in all sizes.
