    Default Thanks

I wanted to thank everyone for all of their posts, insights and suggestions over a multitude of threads for help making our latest section hike (Neel to Fontana Dam) successful. We are on our last resupply at NOC and are taking a zero day.

We met a ton of interesting people and enjoyed listening to the trail stories. The views are amazing and the solitude of the trail was rewarding.

While we didn't stay in a Shelter I was quite disturbed by the trash at the camp sites and shelters on these sections especially Low Gap Shelter camp area where someone left a tent, poles, pants and other stuff.

Fire rings were filled with half burned items or those which wouldn't burn to begin with.

Another site had a sock in the fire ring and shorts left on a fallen tree.

While I'm not perfect we made every effort to leave the areas behind us as clean as possible.

Unfortunately you have come just after the "herd" of spring hikers (some thru, some just sectioning or day hikers) have passed through. Normally the Georgia section of trail is kept cleaner than that, and I regret that you caught it at bad time. I have hauled out trash from many campsites from party crowds, inexperienced hikers, and just plain lazy people. Not much fun, is it? Thank you for your efforts. I hope your hike was still enjoyable.

Nice pictures! Not sure which is my favorite, but I do like the closeups of the newt and the fly (bee?), and I even like the rhododendron tunnel.

Beautiful photos. Were these taken with an iPhone? If not, what camera did you use? Thank you for sharing, and it is a shame that others abuse the trail.

I took the photos with an iPhone 6. I did have one of those wide angle pop on Len.
