I've seen quite a few posts on this forum by people who are planning to get a dog they hope to hike with. The problem being that it's hard to know ahead of time if a dog is suitedd to hiking and/or hiking long distances.
Here's a program that specifically seeks homes for active dogs. You can read about their activity levels and what they excel in and any problem areas, like how they do with other dogs, cats, eetc. And Ruffwear pays to fly them to you and sends you free gear, etc. Sounds like a good deal all around.
