Default Neel's Gap to Dick's Creek

    Hey All,

Looking for some weather and shelter bata. I'll be hiking Neel's Gap to Dick's Creek mid May and was wondering about the weather.

Anyone have any experience here? Or comments on my trip plan.

    My itinerary:

    Days Start Stop/Camp Miles Total
    Day 1 Neels Low Gap 10.8 36.8
Day 2 Low Gap Tray Mnt 15
    Day 3 Tray Mnt Dick's Creek 11

    Thanks!

Looks like a good trip. It shouldn't be too warm mid May, but could be.

The plan looks good, only suggestion I might make is this: go 1 mile past Low Gap shelter to Poplar Stamp Gap, there is a great tent site there. It is an easy extra mile over a very gentle grade and shortens your longer day to Tray Mountain Shelter.

The latter part of the second day will be rough. Pretty steep climb going north out of Unicoi Gap. Perfect time of year to be on the trail. Enjoy.

Coming down to tesnatee and back up to hog pen will have you a little butthurt. Hog pen to low gap is pretty sweet. Watch out for rattlesnake around tesnatee, and bigfoot around low gap..they are there.

It's a perfectly good plan, and a nice section, enjoy it. Weather will be anywhere from chilly at night to hot during the day - May is typically all over the place. But it's unlikely to get below freezing (though not impossible).
