    Default Section 14 RELOCATION NOTICE

Wanted to share this here from Facebook.

RELOCATION NOTICE: The long awaited relocation between Esom Hill Road and Santa Claus Road in Section 14 south of Cave Spring is now open. It eliminates the previous route along Santa Claus Road, Georgia Highway 100, and Esom Hill Road. The relocation begins at the junction of Old Jackson Chapel Road and Esom Hill Road. The new route follows Esom Hill Road south for 0.1 mile, then turns left (east) on a woodland path, crosses a ridge, descends to cross Highway 100, then makes a gentle ascent to Santa Claus Road. The length of the relocation is 1.4 miles, resulting in a net increase in section mileage of 0.1 mile.

A few words of warning: 1) If you are on a bicycle, there is a seven inch drop at the west end of the bridge near Highway 100. The earthwork here will be leveled to match the height of the bridge deck in the coming weeks; 2) Use caution when crossing Highway 100 since this highway gets a high percentage of truck traffic moving at or above the speed limit. Parking at Highway 100 is not advised due to the narrow and sloping road shoulder; 3) Do not disturb our neighbor at the top of the ridge between Esom Hill Road and Highway 100. Even though they are 100 yards off the trail and can't be seen in summer, they have better things to do than cater to your wants and needs.

There are signs at Highway 100. The signs at Esom Hill Road will be in place in the next week or two.

Look in the files section for a map of Section 14. There is a .pdf of the front of the map and a .pdf of the back of the map. They will print correctly on a 8 x 14 (legal) sheet. An accordion fold into four panels, then perpendicular fold will yield a nifty pocket-sized map.

Thanks for the advice regarding not parking on 100. Is there advisable parking in the area? I'll be coming from Atlanta and want to park in an acceptable place. Thanks in advance.
