Almost all of the information you need can be found online.

I think the guidebooks are good if you are looking for info about where to bail on the trail or find shuttles for town time. New hikers too.

Just carry your phone (using a real provider) and a piece of paper with the mileages on it... like they have on summit post. No reason to ever carry excess imo.

This is literally all I have ever needed for over 900 miles on the AT

I got the loose leaf version, took out the pages that cover my 770 mile section this spring, from Harpers Ferry to Rutland Vt.

I just got back from Staples where they spiral bound it for me.

So jealous reading this thread. Wish I could start again this year but I'll have to wait a few more for a second thru attempt. At least I can hike the Ga section again with my big brother in a few months.
