I have been to visit the Yama shop and can attest to the pride and quality control of Gen.

The yama is a single wall tent with the netting attached. The patrol shelter is a tarp and you would want to get the net tent to go with it. The patrol shelter is more versatile because you can set up the net tent by itself either on a clear night or inside shelters to keep the mice and spiders off of you. Both are good choices. I make something similar to the patrol so thats my preference.

The YAMA gear Cirriform I comes in a single wall integrated net version or double wall component net version. The OP made no distinction that I can note on what they are comparing the MLD Patrol Shelter to.

You can also buy the Cirriform in tarp only with out the inner net.

I've used the MLD Patrol tarp, it's a great U/L tarp. Currently have it on sale here at WB, but looks like may have a buyer.

In that case I'd call it a tie. I like the versatility of the separate net inner. It also lets you leave the net inner at home and use a bivy with it for colder weather.

I have the older version of the Yama tarp (no inner net), with smaller beak, as well as a patrol shelter. I like the Yama tarp more simply because MLD's silnylon has become heavier and heavier (Yama = 11.2 ounces, Patrol = almost 13). The Yama tarp gives the same coverage, but you can open up the front completely for most, decent weather. The patrol is more durable overall, because there is not zipper. I use an older version of the MLD serenity shelter, which weighs about 8 ounces. Build quality between MLD and Yama is same.
