    Default Dog Tent

Anyone make a little tent for their dog? I was thinking about doing one as a small project to test my sewing skills on.

    Pics?

Being a hammocker, and recently having begun taking a pup hiking with me, and winter approaching, ... I'm interested in "pup tent" options, too.

Somewhere and I believe that it was on hammockforumns someone posted a neat little "pup tent" that suspended from the suspension of a hammock. In that same thread were some other designs for dog shelters.
I am not young enough to know everything.

Pretty funny.....I use a solong6 tent with my pup but by the end of a long day he'll get in his Costco down vest converted to a dog sleeping bag(waist and arm holes sewn shut) wait to be zipped up and go to sleep. Not sure how big your dog is but would think it would work under your hammock/tarp on a foam pad. Leashed of course....

I don't think your dog would like his own tent. Dogs like to be physically touching you. Hammocks are great cause they will lay underneath. If you hang low enough you can get them in the windsock with you and enjoy the heat they produce. Another good option is a tarp like a trailstar.

Hmmmm... could hang some fabric from my hammock to shield him from the wind. I already made him a pad. Tied him under the hammock a couple of time and left him untied last time. He stayed close.

Thanks for getting me thinking outside the box!

A friend of mine made a simple tarp. It was high enough off the ground so that the dog could get in, and be able to see and smell. The center of the tarp was supported with a hiking pole and the dog curled around it. The center support could also be a line tied to an overhanging limb. It seems to me that your solution depends on whither the dog needs a tent to contain him or not. Even tying the dog and using a tarp would be a simpler and lighter set-up. Also, when it rains, a tarp is much easier to keep clean.

This is what I use, bugnet material that I sewed to a modified tent floor. Keeps my pup close, bugs off him and he can wonder around at night.

I agree the dog wants human contact. They get cold at night too, and would rather combine body heat with their person - it will keep both of you more comfortable.

Warbonnet makes a wind sock made of breathable fabric that totally encloses a hammock. If you hang low, your dog can get inside on a pad on the ground. My dogs not crazy about it, but for winter camping it's great.
