You look strangely familiar. I'm wondering if we've ever met.

The JMT doesnt even start to get good, until south of Reds meadow. The first part is just a teaser.
You have several bail outs ahead, and some low elevation nights for sleeping until past MTR.
Theres really only one or two spots where you could die if you stepped 1 ft to the side of where you should, and they are on the trail to Whitney summit . Rest of trail is wide, well built, and travelled by stock animals.

Agree completely. I would try the southern section. There are several bail out points with easy transport back to ML, Bishop being the first. If you decide to day hike, go to Onion Valley and go over Kearsarge Pass. Want to do an overnight? kersarge, Junction Pass Loop. You have to hike up or down the road from the trailhead to loop but it's a cool trip. Check out this trip report, I snowshoes it but it was a cool trip.
I guess that's possible but I was taking diamox....
First of all just Awesome photos saltysack!!!
Do you know the name of the twin peaks that are reflected in the lake? I remember El Capitan and Glacier Point, but it was a long time since I have been to Yosemite.
I looked up diamox, and it says that dizziness, and lightheadedness, are the first 2 listed side affects. Maybe that is what is pushing your control of the vertigo over the edge.
I hope you are able to get it under control and complete your adventure.
Side Effects
Dizziness, lightheadedness, and an increased amount of urine may occur, especially during the first few days as your body adjusts to the medication. Blurred vision, dry mouth, drowsiness, loss of appetite, stomach upset, headache and tiredness may also occur. If any of these symptoms persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist.
Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.
Tell your doctor immediately if any of these very unlikely but serious side effects occur: increased body hair, hearing loss, ringing in the ears, unusual tiredness, persistent nausea/vomiting, severe stomach/abdominal pain.

Cathedral peak
quietest night I ever spent was near there at lower cathedral lake. Eerie, utter silence. Large cirque around one end of lake blocked wind. Not an insect sound, breeze, frog, nothing. Quieter than even earplugs. Slept awesome.
Thanks Muddy. I had the opportunity to spend a summer visiting Yosemite, and many of the other national parks, when I was younger. Some of the most beautiful places on God's green earth. I have to put a return visit on my bucket list.

I'm feeling much better now...the great host at the cinnamon bear inn said he would take me to the trail head at 5:45 am....going for it if I still feel ok in am.....you only live once! I'm going to drop anything I can to lighten my pack so the 17+ mpd don't kill me...dropping my stove and a few other lil things... Keep it topped out at -30 lbs...Devils to mtr in 3 days and mtr to Whitney in 6....might be beyond me but I'm giving it a shot.....

Anyone got any schedule recs as far as pass timing etc...I have 9 days to do 159 miles from Devils to the portal...

Day 1 Mono creek.
Day 2 MTR and the hot springs (includes Sheldon pass.)
Day 3 Evolution lake.
Day 4 Leconte Canyon (Muir pass)
Day 5 kings River . (Mather pass)
Day 6 Woods Creek. (Pinchot Pass)
Day 7 Bubbs Creek (Glen Pass)
Day 8 Guitar Lake (Forester Pass)
Day 9 Whitney and Portal
i did this from memory so I hope it's close. I did an almost identical trip though I did days 3-5 in two. Basically it's a pass a day.
yep, basically a pass a day till done.
Try to positiona couple miles before the passes so you can hit them in am in case Tstorms sprout up, although weather is likely more stable now.
If you get the inkling, watching sunrise from a high pass by yourself is pretty cool.
It is possible to do Mather and Pinchot in the same day. I was cold and wet and stopped early and didnt.

Ha ha you did it. I knew you could IF YOU EVER LET GO OF BEING SO ANAL ABOUT ENDLESS DETAILS.
Good for you. As long as you didn't get caught in any raging fires I knew you'd like the JMT. Actually, I have never heard anyone say they didn't like thru-hiking the JMT. Now, you understand through personal experience why the JMT is regularly ranked in the TOP 5 trails overall in the U.S. yr after yr.
13days is respectable especially for a FL flat lander. How was the smoke in the southern half?
Smoke was only noticeable in Lyle canyon, LYV and after Mather pass... Very small traces a few other places.
