Once again, I choose to post photos of what hikers will see as they follow The Trail through a town. If this has no interest for you, just skip this.

Overall, the turns for getting through Pearisburg are pretty easy to follow, for the simple reason that the A.T. skirts the town rather than going through the middle of it. I'll mention how to get into the town for those who need a break.

Those going north will have the chance for a lovely overlook at Angels Rest,

and will then proceed downhill at a rate you haven't experienced in a while. You'll walk over Cross Avenue
http://whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=61224
and continue downhill. Eventually the walk levels out a bit, and then you come to paved road -- it's Lane Street -- at which you'll find a picnic table.

[BTW, this view is what a SOBO would see at this spot]
The direction marker on the street should make it clear that NOBOs turn left as they walk along Lane.
Look to the right, and you should have no problem seeing where to go to continue on The Trail across a lawn area.

You'll soon re-enter an area with trees, but even sooner emerge onto Narrow Lane, also paved. Again, NOBO's should turn left and look right.
If they do, they'll almost immediately see a sign showing where The Trail goes into woods again. Just look for the stop sign, then the memorial, then the A.T. sign.

One last possible confusion source is a trail leading to the Pearis Cemetery

Whether going north or south, you turn right onto a broader trail, then immediately turn left to get back on the A.T.
http://whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=61226
You'll soon emerge at the New River Bridge, and you just walk across it.

For NOBOs, this link tells what you'll see, after crossing the bridge, ten times better than I could:

It also has a topo map comparing the old A.T. route with the new one.

For those going south, just backtrack on the above link until you cross the New River Bridge. Once doing so, you'll find a guard rail between you and the vehicles on U.S. Highway 460. Just before this guard rail ends, The Trail leaves this concrete and returns to dirt.

As noted above, when SOBOs get to the Pearis Cemetery Trail, they should just turn right onto the wider trail, then immediately turn left to leave it.
When you emerge to the intersection of Narrows Road and Lost Lane, you'll see the back of the stop sign
http://whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=61229
at which you should veer left along Narrows. Very soon you'll come to the one tricky part of this walk, as the trail can get quite over-grown and there isn't much visible markings. Look for the blue ribbons
http://whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=61231
and you should find the Trail. It should be no problem to get to Lane Street, at which you turn left. The place where you begin to walk up to Angels Rest should be easy to spot

Let's say you don't want to just pass through the outskirts of Pearisburg as quickly as possible, but instead want to get into town.
For NOBOs, walking down Cross Avenue, which becomes Morris Avenue, and then runs into Johnston Avenue; is probably the quickest and easiest route. If you walk all the way to Lane Street, you'll just have to backtrack along Main Street to its intersection with Johnston Avenue, which you would have reached more quickly & more easily the above way.
SOBOs wanting to get into town might be tempted to walk along U.S. Highway 460 after crossing the New River Bridge. For safety reasons, I don't recommend doing so -- you'll either walk with your back to traffic OR you'll have to cross this busy highway twice. It would probably be safer -- and not that much slower -- to stay on The Trail until you get to Narrows Road. Continue on this street until you get to Main Street, then veer to the right. Pretty soon you'll see the fast food places you've been craving.
