Get wisdom, get understanding;
do not forget these words or turn away from them.
6 Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you;
love her, and she will watch over you.
7 The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom.
Though it cost all you have, get understanding.
8 Cherish her, and she will exalt you;
embrace her, and she will honor you.
9 She will give you a garland to grace your head
and present you with a glorious crown.
I came to realize that a life lived to help others is the only one that
matters and that it is my duty, in return for the lavish life God has
devolved upon me, to help others He has placed in my path. This is
my highest and best use as a human.
Ben Stein – columnist, "Monday Night At Morton's."
I do not know who said it first. I do remember where I heard it first. However, it is something that carries me when things get rough. It is what I tell my children when I don't have the answers.
"Do your best. It is all you can do. If you do your best, it will be enough."
To apply this to current events, if Scott Jurek had not injured himself early, he likely would not have pushed himself so much at the end. He likely would have had a bigger buffer. However, because he did not have that buffer, he had to dig deeper. He spoke of learning about himself. He learned he could push harder. He would never have seen this without the adversity. In the end, he had to do his best and it was enough.
That example is corny. However, there is enough truth in it. We give up too easy. We do not do our best. Scott's efforts at the end is an example all can draw from.

In the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years. - Abraham Lincoln
Mine is simple, when I'm feeling exhausted, discouraged, many miles or vertical feet yet to go in the day, I say to myself:
"Suck it up, Cream puff"
Basically what I'm saying is that many of us (certainly myself) have a tendency towards being a big pansy sometimes, and in all seriousness, this little slogan/reminder really works (at least for me and my climbing friends, especially when doing ultra-type things).
"it's just walking..." attributed to LONE WOLF. When I am absolutely dying on the trail, I repeat that mantra, and curse the wolf!!
"Suck it up cupcake" Has always been motivating for me.
Colorless green ideas sleep furiously.
"I got two goals in life. Be as hot as the sand and as big as the ocean."
-Dom Mazzeti

"Wether you believe you can, or that you can't, you are usually right." Henry Ford
