I'm in the planning stag at the moment, but if all goes according to plan I plan on being at Spring Mt. May 1st. Maybe we can join up if you don't mind an old Newbie hiking with you.

I will start my flip flop at Front Royal, VA on April 30 (my 65th birthday). North to Maine and then down to Georgia and north to Front Royal. Have section hiked most of GA, NC & TN and parts of SW VA. I have been planning this adventure over 25 years and can't wait to start!

Default Movie boost thru hiker interest

At ATC in July they said that the spring after "Walk in the Woods" book was released the number of thru hikers showing up in GA jumped by 40%. They expect the same next spring with the movie version released in Sept. All the more reason to SOBO or flip-flop.

Reposting since it wouldn't let me edit.

Trail name: not yet. My "travel name" is Zora or Zoritsa (better for Spanish-speaking countries :P
    Direction: NOBO
    Start date: March 29, 30, or 31

I am blogging at appalachian trials and potentially another site or two. My thru is going to have to be less than $1000, maybe even around $5-600 (I already have gear) and I'll be talking about how to do that without eating ramen and still having town stays on occasion. Possible, though takes planning and dedication. Also how to eat healthy.

    $5.56 a day. That's some cheap eating.

Retired from the army infantry in '09 and I'm tired of chasing teenagers around the house and not getting enough field time. This trip should cure that. Starting at Springer and hiking until I get bored, injured, or summit Katahdin. I look forward to meeting a lot of you along the way.
