Last May, I hiked the Approach Trail to Neel's Gap. I got a chance to see that section with leaves, check my gear and see if I had any problems with the hills. Everything went very well and looking forward to March.

Looks like I'll be seeing a lot of hikers. Firmed up logistics...starting north Adams about 2 May,2 months south, back to katahdin, 2 months south, bounce to first stopping point, south to finish. Approach trail is "exit" trail. That's my alternate hike.

I'm a geologist and love being outside. Ive been planning on doing this for a while and I'm excited this is finally happening. I was initially going to hike early March but I'm hoping to avoid some of the crowd by starting in April. Good luck everybody!

I've been unemployed for about 1.5 years now and my wife proposed that if I don't find a job by April (okay March) why don't you attempt a thru hike. She was very philosophical adding, I know you've always wanted to do it and the window on your ability to realistically complete it is closing (I'm 59). A great gesture on her part and I'm definitely torn between the job search and the prep!
