:banana Help I Need Some PHOTOS

Hello group, I need some photos for a middle school presentation I am being drafted to do and a big question was how and where do you poop. I did not take any privy photos on my hike last year, I know, I know, how could I forget to do it, I don't believe it ether. Can someone please send me any privy shot....that I can show to the kids to better explain to these city children what is what. Thanks in advance for any assistance you may be able to give. PS I could use a good bear or rattlesnake pic too!

    Mike

The bucket on the floor to the left is filled with saw dust to help aid with decomposition (ie. Organic material) of the Poo. Doo your business, then throw a half a handful of saw dust in the hopper on top of your mess. I forget where this is...somewhere in PA, between Lehigh Gap, and DWG.

This is what the backside of a decomposition privy looks like...notice the angled wooden box, that can lift up on a hinge for a care taker to rake out the poo, once it's broke down and ready to be spread like compost. We don't Pee in composition privys, #1's are done out in the woods, somthin' to do with urine inhibiting the decomposition process I guess, killing off the good microbes that would otherwise eat the Poo...oh, the kids will love that....oooooh, hehe. Have fun with the talk, cool thing!

This is a step up from one we encountered north of Pearisburg, if I remember correctly. Just a platform and a seat. No roof. No walls. Wish I had a picture.

That would be the Rice Fields privy. I have a picture on my other computer, but believe you can find some images online. Very open.

Out back of Mink Hollow shelter in the Catskills:

The privy is wrapped in chickenwire by ke9tv, on Flickr

The chickenwire has mostly protected the outhouse itself, but the porcupines have made a fair start toward eating the door:

What might be provided if there isn't an outhouse:

I always know where I am. I'm right here.
