Default Best room rates in Damascus ??

Where's the best place to stay in Damascus - where you get a private room.

Looking for a good price for a few days stay in Feb.

    Thanks!

We just spent a week in Damascus. We rented a cottage that was the nicest, well-equipped place we have ever rented. It was like being at home right away. So many places were closed we didn't have much choice. I'm not sure about the good price; we thought it was. Maybe less than $100 a day but well worth it. They will deal with you. The contact people are Dave and Donna Stinnart at [email protected] or 276-206-1506. Dave will also shuttle you. The cottage is about 150 yards from the AT. We had a great week despite the cold and snow.

I have not been to this cottage myself, I merely saved the link a while back when I was searching for area lodging, but it may be worth investigating further -- http://www.rubysrest.com/index.php

    Hi,
The cottage I recommended was not Ruby's Rest but Auntie's Cottage. I forget who put us on to it but it was a hostel closed at this time of the year. They recommended both places but said Ruby's Rest was right behind the owner's house. Auntie's Cottage is stand-alone on a quiet street and, as I said, has everything including the knowledge and advice of the friendly, hiker owners.

I had to stay here with my first foot injury. The prices seem to have gone up in 2 years, but for me it was worth it. Ms. Montgomery was very kind and worried about me getting around. She offered to take me to a bluegrass festival with her husband, but my foot wasn't up to it.

We visit Damascus multiple times a year. We camp about half the time and stay the other half. We haven't stayed at every place, but we have stayed at quite a few. Lazy fox inn is one of our favorites if it's just us. Between the trails is our favorite with a group. These may not be the cheapest but that's relative. Damascus is an extremely inexpensive vacation.

I can't personally recommend it, since I haven't stayed there, but the Mill comes highly recommended. It's where my wife and I plan to stay when I finally hike there. http://damascusinn.com/

One thing about the internet is that cool ideas are brought up one may have not thought about. Vacationing in Damascus in non thru hiker time is going right toward the top of things to do list.
