    under 3oz, $70

This is the UL forum- generally speaking, you'll find few UL kits with full rain pants unless it's winter time.
I don't have first hand experience but I doubt you'll get enough breathability from even the Challenger gear in a rain pant when walking.
And if you are in camp, you're probably under enough cover to use a DWR wind pant.

Cheapest alternative is no rain pants at all. What do you need them for?

    Im guessing rain.....
    But handy for wind too
    And warmth

Going without only works in very warm weather

This is a necro thread, but i wore out my zpacks rainjacket , pants are fine. They dont need as much water resistance.

If you’ve never been hiking in New Hampshire and Maine, even in summer, I could understand why you think they’re not needed. Otherwise don’t go there without rain pants.

Outdoor research I feel is overlooked a lot of the time in the outdoor community. I have used their helium series for the entirety (almost) of my AT completion and wouldn't ever want another jacket. Unfortunately they discontinued the Helium HD lineup and went with the helium ii. The HD was UL with some luxuries- Zipper pockets, Velcro, forming hood. The pants have always ben the ii, and I enjoy them however they rarely make it onto trips.

Antigravitygear sil-nylon rainpants weigh from 4.8 to 5.6 oz and are on sale for 55.21. The sil-nylon is no problem since I don't hike in them except on really cold rainy days. Oversized so they are really comfortable over clothing.

Have their sales fallen? They have been a major player for decades in the mountaineering and climbing industry with some overlap into general backpacking...(good ole Crocodile gaiters anyone?)

my suggestion for shoulder season/any trips above treeline is AGG:
