    Default Dog Friendly Hostels/Motels

Does anyone know the ratio of dog friendly hostels/motels to non-dog friendly ones? Will I be able to find one in most towns? About how much extra, on average do you end up paying for having a dog?

You need to get a copy of the "A.T. Guide" ASAP, as that info is included in the hostel/Motel description. In general, most hostels are "pet friendly" in the south, along with some motels. Unless it specifically says "pets okay", assume they are not. You maybe required to tent outside with your dog. Once into PA, pet friendly hostels and motels become very scarce. Some that do accept pets charge an extra $10. All require the dog to be leashed. Of course, very few thru-hikers with dogs even make it to PA, so that may or may not be a problem for you.
